Sweet Hanny,
This month flew by even faster than your first. I'm worried that will become a common thought. So much has happened this month but at the same time I don't know what to say or where to start. I have a calendar that I jot notes on of what happened each day. A habit I picked up from your dear great grandmother Nanny. I wish she could be here to know you and watch you grow. I wish she was here to watch me as a mother and to give me advice. We miss her everyday and think of her often.
You started off the month with a cold that dad brought home, unfortunately. We tried really hard to keep you away from germs, but it's hard to keep daddy away. He needs kisses daily. The cold and congestion lasted close to 2 weeks. You held up pretty well and thankfully never ran a fever or had any symptoms that required closer medical attention. The doctor said lots of cuddles and close attention was about all we could do.
You started staying awake for longer periods of time during the day. You particularly like mid mornings, early afternoon and around midnight. Most days you are alert, calm and happy. You enjoy looking out the window from your bouncy seat. Along with being more alert you've started making eye contact! It started with brief flashes and has grown to be sustained eye contact until someone walks away, then you try to follow but haven't quite gotten the hang of that yet. Sometimes one eye goes cross eyed when you are really looking hard at something. It's really cute. You have also graced us with a few quick, small smiles lately! They aren't consistent and are usually short lived but boy are they sweet. Thankfully you are also sleeping fairly well at night. You go to bed with us around midnight (although you do sleep earlier than that it's usually in your bouncy seat) and you wake for a bottle around 4 am and 7 am. After the 7 o'clock feeding I lay you back down and you and I sleep until about 9 or so. Then we start our day.
Speaking of sleep and leading to schedules, this month had an exciting revelation. My boss, Mr. Chris to you, offered to allow me to continue working from home after my maternity leave ends. We worked out the details and will make it official for me to work from home full time for the foreseeable future. You won't have to go to daycare, saving your dad and I a lot of money, and keeping you away from germy little kids! I'm very excited and grateful to be able to stay home and work and look after you. It's taking some getting used to the idea since I'd never expected to be a work from home mom. I look forward to being able to watch you grow and development in a way I never dreamed I'd be able to.
Dad and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary, and to do something special the three of us went out to the 4-H center where we were married. I gave you a bottle in the back row of pews. Pretty different from what we did a year ago!!
We celebrated your 1st Halloween and I didn't really have a costume for you, but I had purchased a ridiculously cute elf outfit that was meant to be for Christmas, but there's a chance it will be too small by then so we went ahead and got some use out of it. You were too cute! You also had your first annual pumpkin carving at Nana and Papa Chip's house. Dad did a scary face and I had no ideas so I did a last minute HB in my pumpkin. It wasn't pretty but that's ok.
We went to a few more kickball games and cheered on Daddy, watched some football with Grandma, attended cousin Liam's baptism (and you were SO good! Besides a few grunts you were a quiet church mouse), had lunch with Aunt Beth, met Aunt Linda from Texas, did a girls lunch with some work friends, met your future boyfriend Grayson and his parents Cam & Jordan, watched a lot of Survivor, and spent a lot of time getting to know each other and cuddle. Overall we had a wonderful month!
It is such a privilege to get to know you and watch you grow. I love seeing your personality start to come out. You seem to be sweet and calm like your daddy, but light hearted like me. Words don't express the love your dad and I have for you. We didn't have the immediate bond after our rough hospital stay, instead our love grows each day, with every small smile and every cuddle. We love you little one, more than you'll ever know.
